My client is a specialist in the heavy engineering sector producing components for the Oil, Gas & Petro-Chemical Industry. They are actively seeking to recruit an Assistant Works Manager.
Managing shop floor personnel (19). Accurately planning, co-ordination & control of manufacturing processes. Ensuring that all processes are carried out in a time / cost effective manner to the highest level of quality.
Key responsibilities: –
·Managing all aspects of production.
·Plan sequence of fabrication, assembly, and other manufacturing operations for guidance of production workers.
·Assign workers to production operations in a timely manner.
·Plan and prioritise operations to ensure maximum performance and minimum delay. With particular consideration to premium time working as and when required.
·Proactively address potential issues ahead of them arising aiming for minimum disruption and delay and report in a timely manner to departmental managers.
·To demonstrate an in depth understanding of technical specifications and drawings.
·Co-ordinate production for multiple projects.
·Monitor jobs to ensure that they will finish on time.
·Expedite operations that delay schedules and alter schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.
·To supervise production personnel during premium time working hours.
·Be an active member of the Health & Safety quarterly meetings.
·Prepare and submit status and performance reports to the Chairman & Managing Director & Project Managers of assigned projects & raw material status.
·Ensuring daily production requirements are achieved to meet Customer expectation.
·Follow up as required with all departments to expedite flow of materials and documents to meet production schedule and Customer expectation.
·Interact with shop floor on a daily basis to resolve issues regarding manufacturing efficiencies or additional information as requested from manufacturing, sales or accounts.
·An in depth understanding of all product lines.
·Monitor factory performance daily, challenging and understanding where performance is different from what was expected.
·Determine equipment and raw materials needed to cover production demand.
·Co-ordinate transport for sub-contract processes.
·Liaise with the sales division& project managers to determine Customer requirements.
·Monitor product progress to ensure its following the schedule.
·Prepare reports for departmental management and suggest ways to improve efficiency.
·Troubleshoot problems that occur during production including staff shortages and machinery malfunctions.
·Recommending changes and improvements.
·Liaise with department managers to discuss programme in a timely manner.
·Improving processes and cost efficiency.
·Monitoring and maintaining the quality of the order.
·Checking the accuracy of the product.
·Ensure that the production is cost effective.
·Monitor the production processes and adjust schedules as needed to maintain delivery requirements.
·Be responsible for the selection and maintenance of equipment.
·Monitor product standards and implement quality-control programmes.
·Work with departmental managers to implement the company’s policies and goals.
·Supervise and motivate shop floor personnel.
·Review worker performance.
·Identify training needs and liaise with the Q.H.S.E.
·Executing the duties of the position such that the focus is largely proactive versus reactive.
·Liaise with but not be controlled by Third Party Sub-Contractors.
·To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate.
·To mentor and support other members of staff.
·Strong team player integrating with all members of staff on a daily basis.
·Work in accordance with ISO 9001.
·To co-operate with the Company in complying with relevant health and safety legislation, policies and procedures in the performance of the duties of the post.
·General housekeeping to ensure that the work place is a safe working environment projecting a professional image for the business.
·To carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities within the overall function commensurate with the level of responsibility of the post.
The successful candidate will have proven managerial experience gained within an Engineering / Manufacturing environment. Excellent communication and man-management skills. Modern thinking, fully conversant with modern principles and techniques. Supporting qualifications would be beneficial. Working knowledge of heavy engineering would be good.
